Effective asset management is a crucial component for any organization that deals with large volumes of digital media. For CNN, one of the largest news organizations in the world, this issue has profound consequences and an effective solution has lasting impact on the quality of news content delivered to the public. In light of this, CNN has developed a new range of asset management tools, collectively known within the organization as Media Source. The Media Source suite enables CNN to easily capture, log and tag video content for storage in CNN footage databases, which can then be searched by segment producers when assembling footage for distribution. In collaboration with Mindpurge, Tripleoptic designed and developed a promotional website for deployment on the CNN extranet to advocate the use of the latest Media Source version in CNN’s bureaus around the world. The website highlighted key features of the new version, including a streamlined OS X widget that makes ingesting video into the CNN database a simple drag and drop process.
